DENBIGH TOWN 3

LLANRUG UNITED 2

THE 100 per cent record remains intact for Denbigh Town.

The unbeaten start to the season continued with a tough Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division One win against a well-organised Llanrug team.

After taking an early lead through Jake Walker, Denbigh found themselves 2-1 down early in the second half, before a Mark Roberts equaliser and a late Walker penalty gave them the three points, which sees Denbigh joint top of the table.

Town claimed the lead in only the ninth minute.

Dan Clarke sent a low ball to Jake Walker in the six-yard box and while his first attempt on goal was blocked, the Denbigh striker beat Llanrug keeper Dylan Roberts from the rebound.

The visitors responded to this setback and they put their opponents under pressure.

Just on the stroke of half-time, they equalised.

A great header from Alan Owen left Denbigh keeper Sarnowski with no chance.

Llanrug started the second half the brighter of the two teams.

Miles Todd made an acrobatic goalline clearance on 50 minutes, but the visitors took the lead a couple of minutes later.

Dan Lloyd was penalised for a foul in the box and Llanrug captain Dylan Owen sent Sarnowski the wrong way from the spot.

Going behind seemed to spur Denbigh on and they grabbed an equaliser in the 57th minute.

A scramble in the box saw Denbigh have several shots blocked, before Mark Roberts struck well to find the back of the net.

The game was now flowing from end-to-end and Denbigh’s defence was stretched when Gavin Lloyd-Jones beat two challenges and headed for goal, only for Antoni Jan Sarnowski to make a great low save.

A pivotal moment arrived with five minutes left to play.

Billy Holmes was hacked to the ground in the penalty area and it was an easy decision for the referee to point to the spot.

Jake Walker kept his nerve to fire in the penalty and seal the three points for Denbigh.
