RUTHIN 59

LLANRWST 62-3

BATTING concerns played their part during a losing North Wales Cricket League weekend for Ruthin.

They entertained Llanrwst in their latest Division One encounter and it was the Conwy Valley visitors who claimed the spoils by three wickets.

The toss was won by Ruthin skipper Rhys Hilditch and he elected to take the bat first option.

That didn't turn out to be the best of decisions as both of Ruthin's openers were dismissed cheaply.

Dafydd Roberts was stumped by Aron Hughes off the bowling of Scott Thomas, who also accounted for the wicket of Michael Parton.

Apart from a couple of run outs, the rest of the wickets were bagged by Alwyn Williams.

He tore through the middle and lower order to finish up with a superb 6-23 return from seven overs.

Murray Whitehead (16) and Jac Evans (10) were the only batsmen to reach double figures as Ruthin stumbled to 59 all out in 32 overs.

From this difficult position, Ruthin did well to eventually pick up a couple of points on the day.

Jamie Hulse (1-22), Harry Pooler (1-18) and a run out made sure there was some joy for Ruthin during the second portion of the afternoon.

However, victory was assured for Llanrwst when they reached 62-3 in 16 overs.

The main performers with the bat were Aron Hughes (26 not out) and Scott Thomas (10) as Llanrwst claimed a 13-2 points triumph.
