ST ASAPH 111-0

WHAT a result this was for St Asaph!

Mochdre are potentially looking at the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title this season, while some indifferent form saw the Saints slip into the bottom-four.

However, the Elwy Grove Park side turned the formbook on its head on Saturday to record an astonishing maximum points triumph.

Danny Ryan, Mathew Ryan and Duncan Midgley were the star performers as Mochdre were sent tumbling to only their fourth defeat of the summer, which has effectively ended their title hopes.

Meanwhile, for the Saints, a sixth success of the season should do the trick to preserve their Premier Division status.

Mochdre will have been looking to put together a match-winning total after they won the toss and elected to bat first.

A big score did appear to be in the offing when openers Stewart Williams and Gareth Goodson put together a first wicket stand of 81.

This eventually came to an end when Goodson was caught by Liam Moores off the bowling of Danny Ryan for a quickfire 48 from just 36 deliveries.

From this point onwards, St Asaph dominated the encounter.

Demonstrating what a good day it was for the visiting side, they claimed 10 Mochdre wickets for just 28 runs.

Danny Ryan took out the bulk of the top order on his way to figures of 4-40 from 10.4 overs.

There was also success for David North, who took 2-44, while Mathew Ryan bagged a fantastic 4-6 from only four overs.

It was an impressive performance in the field too, with Nathanael Scott and Daniel Williams each claiming two catches, while St Asaph didn't concede a single extra in 31.4 overs.

St Asaph didn't want to lose an early wicket when it was their turn to bat after tea.

In an eye-catching display, they didn't lose a single wicket and they were able to reach a winning 111 without loss in 18 overs.

Duncan Midgley struck a superb undefeated 61 for the visitors, with Mathew Ryan finishing up on 32 not out as St Asaph picked up all of the 15 points that were on offer.
