A MAGNIFICENT seven has sent Llannefydd storming through to the next round of the Welsh Cup.

In the first qualifying round of this season's competition, Llan claimed a 7-2 home success versus Gwalchmai.

Man of the match Tomos Jones grabbed a hat-trick for the victors, while Elgan Roberts netted two penalties.

The remaining Llannefydd goals were scored by Lewys Jones and Nico Clwyd.

Also heading through are Llandyrnog United, who saw off Lex 4-2.

Matty Pendleton (2) and Ross Gilbert had United well in control, only for Lex to battle back with two goals.

Llandyrnog's progress was assures when Josh Jones struck a minute from time.

Llanuwchllyn departed the Welsh Cup with a 5-1 loss at Mynydd Isa, while Llangollen Town lost out 4-0 at Castell AC.

Caerwys were defeated 6-0 during their trip to Penycae.

They were without a recognised goalkeeper and two main strikers, so it was always going to be an uphill task against a useful outfit. Jaroslaw Sakowicz deputised in goal and will be disappointed with the first goal, which went through his hands after 10 minutes.

However, nobody can fault his performance as he pulled off a number of decent saves to keep the score down.

Penycae’s second took a wicked deflection off a Caerwys defender and three more before the break sealed the tie.

A battling second half performance from the visitors and some spectacular stops from Sakowicz restricted the hosts to a late goal, despite offside appeals.

Caerwys travel to holders Cefn Druids tonight (September 4) for a second round clash in the NEWFA Cup.

Seb Czubaj is set to return in goal, with Tom Cumming and Elgan Hughes hopefully returning to lead the attack.
