GLAN CONWY 2

ST ASAPH CITY 2

ST ASAPH City manager Daniel Brewerton was pleased with his side’s display in their 2-2 draw at Glan Conwy.

The Saints dug deep to claim a share of the spoils at their newly promoted Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One rivals, who boast a formidable home record that went a long way to them securing promotion last term.

The result leaves City in ninth spot ahead of their Lock Stock Fireworks Challenge Cup clash at Llanrwst United this Saturday.

Brewerton said: “Overall, I’m pleased to come away with a point, they’ve got a really good home record and with the size of the pitch it’s not an easy place to go and get a result.

“First half we struggled to find a way to really get at them and found ourselves going into the break a goal behind. We came out with a different strategy and immediately started to get into good areas, we were rewarded but also had to absorb a period of pressure.

“I thought we were very good value for the point and deserved to come away with something.”

The home side went into the break with the advantage thanks to an excellent finish from Connor Davies on 38 minutes, but the Saints responded well after the break and restored parity thanks to a Josh Brown effort with 55 gone.

This provoked a strong spell of pressure from the home side, who regained the initiative on 75 minutes when recent signing Lee Ellis turned in a chance for his first goal in Glan colours.

Credit to the away side, though, as they kept plugging away and got their reward late on when Stewart White unleashed a ferocious strike that flew into the top corner a minute from time.

It wasn't the best of weekends for Llandyrnog United, who slipped to a 7-2 reverse at Penrhyndeudraeth.

Five first half goals effectively sealed the deal for the home side, while two fine goals from Josh Jones gave United something to cheer about.

There was an amazing match in Division Two, with Llannefydd somehow losing 4-3 at Gwalchmai.

Win number six for the season appeared to be heading Llan's way when they held a 3-1 lead with less than five minutes remaining.

Goals from Ciran Jones, Llion Morris and Elgan Roberts had Llannefydd in control, but in an amazing finale, Gwalchmai benefited from goals after 88, 90 and 93 minutes.

Mark Evans scored the winner from the spot.
