CAERWYS 4

MOLD TOWN UNITED 1

CAERWYS advanced through to the quarter-finals of the Clwyd League (East) Premier Cup following a 4-1 derby success at home to Mold Town United.

Tom Cumming and Ruari Wood came into the starting line-up, whilst Kyle De-Lloyd was handed his first start of the season.

A slow start from the hosts saw Mold take the lead in the fifth minute as Aaron North capitalised on a good through ball.

The visitors could have doubled their lead shortly afterwards as North fizzed his shot narrowly wide of Seb Czubaj’s goal.

Caerwys began to settle after this with some good combinations between Elgan Hughes and Tom Cumming, whilst Josh Richardson caused the Mold left-back a host of problems out wide.

In the 10th minute, Kieran Smith’s powerful free kick was well saved by Mold keeper Connor Griffiths, however the ball was parried into the area and Cumming blasted over from close range.

Caerwys were level moments later when Hughes smashed home his first goal of the season from close range.

Continuing their purple patch, the hosts took the lead 90 seconds later.

Smith’s free kick was flicked past the keeper by Richardson.

Caerwys now took a real hold on the tie, with Cumming and Hughes putting the Mold centre-backs under continued pressure.

Theo Woolford and Jaroslaw Sakowicz had a good handle on the midfield battle and the latter forced Griffiths into a fine save from a tight angle.

A superb turn of skill from the experienced Hughes cut open the Mold backline on the half-hour and he teed up Cumming, who finished superbly into the bottom corner from just outside the area to extend Caerwys’ lead.

The second half was a scrappy affair with neither side creating much of note.

One further goal arrived with 10 minutes remaining as Kieran Smith picked out Jon Edmonds with an inch perfect diagonal ball.

Edmonds raced clear and rounded the keeper before tapping home to give the hosts a 4-1 lead.
