BALA TOWN 2

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN 0

THERE'S just no stopping Chris Venables this season.

Venables came back to haunt his former club Aberystwyth Town on Friday night.

He grabbed a double in Bala Town's 2-0 win, taking his tally for the season up to eight goals.

Despite this, Bala could have been a goal down in the opening couple of minutes as Mendes headed wide from Phillips' delivery and Ashley Morris was forced to make a reaction save to push away another Mendes effort.

After these initial scares, Bala started to find their feet as Louis Robles fired into the side netting, before the hosts took the lead on 13 minutes.

During the move of the match, Anthony Stephens unleashed a defence splitting through ball into the path of Henry Jones and he pulled out a fantastic reversed pass for Venables to strike the ball into the net from the edge of the box.

Colin Caton's side grew in strength after taking the lead and they should have added to their tally, but they were denied by Connor Roberts, who was superb in the Aberystwyth net.

Roberts denied Robles following a break down the right and then Smith putting the ball into the area, which just missed the head of the incoming Mendes, before Bala had a strong handball shout waved away.

Before the break, Aber almost levelled when Luke Boundford saw Morris off his line and lobbed him from the edge of the box, but Sean Smith tracked back to clear off the line.

Bala had most of the play in the second half.

Henry Jones skipped past two markers, but saw his strike being parried away by Roberts, with Robles then curling wide of the far post as the hosts threatened.

A second goal should have been added when they had three successive efforts on target.

Firstly, Robles went one-on-one with Roberts, but saw his shot being blocked, while the rebound arrived to Venables, whose follow-up rattled the base of the post.

Following this, Kieran Smith placed the ball wide of the right hand post.

Bala were in their stride with Jones and Venables linking up well, but the opportunities either lacked power or went wide of the target.

Aber weren’t done just yet, with Alex Boss seeing his shot saved by Morris and then Geoff Kellaway forcing another save from the Bala number one.

Ten minutes from time and Bala got their second goal.

Jones found Venables at the back post and he buried the ball into the back of the net to seal all three points for the Lakesiders.
