RUTHIN LADIES 0
DYSYNNI 5
IT TURNED out to be another tough weekend for Ruthin Ladies.
The tricky contests continue, with Ruthin playing host to current North Wales Women's Hockey League leaders Dysynni on Saturday.
New to this division after promotion last time out, Ruthin Ladies defended hard to keep Dysynni from scoring as many goals as their match the previous week.
This was a 15-0 win again Bangor University.
Dysynni found things tougher on this occasion, although by half time they had managed to build up a 3-0 lead.
With many new faces this season, a lot of the Ruthin players have not played alongside each before and whilst there are many strong individuals, the team is only just starting to work together as one.
A half-time team talk resulted in a change in the formation, meaning that Ruthin were able to concede less goals in the second half.
With some brilliant runs from sweeper Sian Jones, Ruthin challenged the Dysynni defence on more occasions after the interval.
Overall, the Dysynni team was the stronger side, letting the ball do the work and having a great awareness of each other’s positions on the pitch.
They had the ability to tire out the Ruthin team and use their individual skills to win many short corners by knocking the ball onto the flagging feet of defenders.
Although the final score was 5-0, Ruthin defended at least a dozen short corners from which only one goal was actually conceded.
Ruthin goalkeeper Harriet Jones picked up both player of the match accolades for some superb saves.
Ruthin are extremely grateful to The Plume of Feathers for providing the post match refreshments and to Eastwood Media for the sponsorship of this home match.
Things don't get any easier for Ruthin and the team's next match is at unbeaten Newtown on Saturday.
While it's another tough game, the Ruthin team is getting stronger as the players train hard and gel more as a team.
