CONWY BOROUGH 1

CORWEN 3

THEY say the best things come to those who wait!

Corwen were finally able to celebrate their first JD Cymru North win of the season in midweek via a stunning 3-1 success at high-flying Conwy Borough.

In a great start for the visitors, they took the lead in the 11th minute.

Tom Williams played a great crossfield ball to Owen Cordiner, who did well to stay onside.

Cordiner get through on goal and he curled the ball around oncoming goalkeeper Huw Shaw and into the corner of the net.

The hosts looked for a quick response, but Corwen keeper Dylan Jones pulled off a good save.

After making this save, Jones fell awkwardly on his shoulder and received lengthy treatment, however despite being in pain he soldered on.

At the other end, Dale Davies' powerful shot was blocked and as Owen Cordiner stretched for the rebound, he sent his effort over the bar.

A minute later and Joe Williams got through on goal, but Leigh Craven was able to get back and tackle the Corwen striker.

Conwy responded with a chance for Cory Williams, who was denied by a good save from Dylan Jones.

With a couple of minutes of the opening period left to play, Joe Williams beat the offside trap to get through on goal and he forced a good save from Huw Shaw.

Corwen did double their advantage on the stroke of half-time when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Joe Williams.

Williams picked himself up to take the penalty and he found the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-0.

The visitors threatened again at the beginning of the second period and when a corner caused chaos in the box, three players got shots away, but none found their intended target.

Conwy were looking for a way back into the contest and Corrig McGonigle's high ball into the box was met by the head of Liam Morris, with Dylan Jones tipping the attempt over the bar.

The visitors looked to make it 3-0 when Joe Williams went around Adam Prichard and crossed to Dale Davies, whose shot took a deflection and went over the bar.

Conwy posed a threat with an effort that hit the post before Dylan Jones kicked it wide, but they were soon back in the game.

Prolific striker Corrig McGonigle ran at goal and then curled his shot into the far corner of the net.

This goal gave the hosts a boost and they went close to levelling from an overhead kick, but the ball went over the crossbar.

As Conwy committed men forward they were always going to leave space at the back, which was exploited by Joe Williams.

He ran into an almost deserted Conwy half, where he took on a defender and he recovered from a poor touch to get within shooting range.

Williams made no mistake as he slotted the ball home to restore Corwen’s two-goal lead.
