LLANRHAEADR 2

RUTHIN TOWN 2

LLYR Morris was the hero as his last minute penalty made sure Ruthin Town picked up a point from their JD Cymru trip to Llanrhaeadr.

The Mid Wales hosts appeared to be on course for all three points when they held a 2-1 advantage with time almost up.

However, Ruthin won an 89th minute penalty when Morris was fouled in the box and the star striker picked himself up to tuck away the ensuing penalty.

In tricky playing conditions, it was a good point for Chris Hardy's outfit.

Ruthin started the encounter well, with skipper Ilan Hughes Osian Davies and Dan Cox winning the midfield battle.

Town would claim the lead after 14 minutes.

Ilan Hughes' free kick was met by centre half Garmon Hafal and his near post header went into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Looking to respond, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant played the ball forward at every opportunity and striker Iwan Matthews caused the Ruthin back four plenty of problems by running in behind them.

Matthews should have equalised on 25 minutes, but he shot wide from close range.

A few minutes later and Llanrhaeadr threatened once again, with Ruthin number one Ryan Goldston made a very good save with his legs from Matthews' effort.

After this pressure, Llanrhaeadr equalised via a soft goal.

A long free kick into the box was met by a free header, which gave Goldston no chance.

Llanrhaeadr would go in ahead at half-time.

In the final minute before the break, Matthews again caused problems and he was fouled in the box by Goldston.

Matthews took the penalty and although Goldston saved it well, the home striker was on hand to tap in the rebound.

The second half witnessed a midfield battle, with both teams trying to find the killer pass.

Goldston came to Ruthin's rescue on 55 minutes when he saved brilliantly to keep his side in the game.

As the half developed, skipper Ilan Hughes went off injured for Ruthin and he was replaced by Gwydion Ifan.

Ifan did his utmost to get on the ball and create a chance.

As time ticked on, Ruthin had the majority of the possession and they carried on battling until the end.

Then, in the 89th minute, from a through ball from Dan Cox released Llyr Morris, who was then brought down by Llanrhaeadr’s keeper for a penalty.

Morris kept his cool from the spot to gain a well-earned point for Ruthin.
