FLINT TOWN UNITED 3

CORWEN 1

AFTER back-to-back away wins in JD Cymru North, Corwen made the trip to Cae-Y-Castell in confident mood.

However, they knew that they were in for a tough encounter against a Flint Town United side that was also in fine form and flying high in the table.

The hosts were given a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the third minute when they were awarded a penalty kick.

Captain Richard Foulkes left Corwen keeper Nathan Roberts with no chance as he rifled the ball into the very top corner of the net.

Flint were looking to double their advantage two minutes later when Daniel Andrews sent a shot at goal from the edge of the box, but his effort went narrowly wide.

At the Flint end, Joe Williams held the ball up before crossing to Tom Williams, who took on two defenders before shooting and he saw his shot deflect out for a corner.

The visitors failed to clear their lines following the resulting corner and a long ball was played across the box, which was collected by a Flint player.

He pinged the ball back into the danger area, where Nathan Brown jumped to head in his side's second goal at the far post.

The away side looked to find a way back into the game when Eilir Edwards played the ball to Tom Williams.

H held the ball up in space before crossing it to Dale Davies, who sent an angled shot over the bar.

On the brink of half-time, Aaron Jones came off his line to challenge Tom Williams for the ball.

But he could only take out the Corwen player, resulting in the away side being awarded a spot kick.

Joe Williams took it and he made no mistake as he halved the deficit for Corwen.

After the break, Flint were awarded a free kick in a promising position; however the Corwen wall did its job as it stood strong and blocked Richard Foulkes’ effort.

This spell of play ended when a Nathan Brown shot from the corner of the box whizzed past the far post.

Richard Foulkes tried his luck again from another free kick in a dangerous position, but he was once again thwarted by the Corwen wall.

As Flint continued to press, they soon regained their two-goal cushion.

It went back to Davies, who made no mistake at the second time of asking.
