RUTHIN 2NDS 28

MENAI BRIDGE 10

AFTER an important win in the last league game against Holyhead, Ruthin 2nds wanted to ensure they carried on their winning streak against another island team over the weekend.

The Blues played host to Menai Bridge and a comfortable 28-10 success keeps undefeated Ruthin clear at the top of the Division Three (North) standings.

The game started with some good play from both sides, however it was clear early on that Ruthin were going to be dominant at set piece time, with the scrum in particular impressive for the home side.

The first score came from a mauling lineout deep within the Menai Bridge half.

Dillon Edwards broke away jinking his way through a number of tackles to score under the posts.

The second score came again from a dominant set piece.

A scrum five metres out from the try line was duly pushed over and number eight Brynach Edwards touched down.

With two scores in the bag, yet again Ruthin fell victim to complacency and they allowed Menai Bridge to come back into the game with a penalty.

This score, although only a penalty, gave great confidence to the away side and they continued to hammer the Ruthin defence.

To their credit, the home side's defence it held strong and some fantastic individual attacking breaks allowed Ruthin to score their next try.

Scrum half Deian Williams was playing well and he was literally running rings around some of the opposition - and also confusing his team mates at times!

The calming tones of outside half Steff Parry marshalled the backs well to create a sweeping move, which ended with Ynyr Roberts scoring in the corner.

Discipline was once again an issue for the home side, with yellow cards being shown to Tom Crawford and Deian Williams.

After the game, the management team said they will be looking at fines at the upcoming Christmas party to ensure that the disciplinary record is improved in the second half of the season.

The ill discipline allowed Menai Bridge to score a rumbling forwards try near the posts and this was duly converted.

It was to be Ruthin's day, though, and they secured a bonus point before the final whistle.

Huw Parry latched onto a magic pass from Jamie Chips to score in the corner, with Deian Williams adding the conversion points.

Next up for Ruthin 2nds is a trip to third-placed Flint on December 7.
