WHAT had looked like being a promising cross-country season for Prestatyn Running Club’s men fell apart on Saturday.

Only four seniors made the trip to Dolgellau for the third fixture in the Grand Prix Express North Wales League.

The disappointing turnout, which means that they now lie in eighth place in Division One and face relegation, was in contrast with that of the women, whose six runners established them at the top of Division Two.

As further consolation, the M65 team is still in contention for medals despite also being understrength on Saturday.

Prestatyn RC placings:

Men: 66, Rob Alexander 41.45; 116, James Rogers 46.56; 133, Des Davies 49.42; 145, Steve Brown 51.45.

M65: 2, George Nixon 31.12. M70: 5, Steve Hatfield 48.53. M80: 1, Roger Harrison-Jones 44.17.

On the same day, Amie Bagnall took on the country’s top athletes in the Liverpool Cross Challenge.

The longer-than-usual five-mile course was a quagmire and she did well to finish 91st overall.

One of the other weekend counter attractions was Sunday’s Wilmslow 10k, which, as usual, attracted a quality field and produced fast times.
