RUTHIN TOWN 1

GUILSFIELD 1

A DRAMATIC afternoon at Memorial Park Fields ended with the points being shared.

In the last JD Cymru North contest ahead of Christmas, Ruthin Town played host to Guilsfield.

For a long time, the match looked certain to end up goalless.

However, two goals in the dying minutes made sure honours ended up even.

Ruthin started well and they created the clearest chances of the game in the first quarter.

Llyr Morris put one effort over the bar and Garmon Hafal had a header from a corner that missed the target.

Guilsfield did offer a few promising moments of their own and from a corner that was half cleared, they had a shot from edge of the box that hit the crossbar.

At the end of the half, Guilsfield attacked down their right and from a cross, a striker found himself in space only to be denied by a fine save at his near post by Ryan Goldston.

The last action of the half saw the Guilsfield keeper make a flying save from a good Gwydion Ifan effort.

In the second half, the game was mostly played in the midfield, with Ruthin having plenty of the ball, but they didn’t create many clearcut chances.

Morris and Gwion Owen were always dangerous on the break, but they were foiled by a strong Guilsfield defensive effort.

Then, on 89 minutes, Gwion Owen found some space on the left and he turned his marker as he went into the box before being brought down for a penalty.

Llyr Morris stepped up and he put Ruthin one-up.

Guilsfield then threw the kitchen sink at their hosts to try and get an equaliser.

In the 93rd minute, Ruthin failed to clear their lines from a long throw and captain Robbie James was on hand to turn the ball in from 10 yards out.
