RUTHIN 2NDS 41

DINBYCH 2NDS 10

VALE of Clwyd bragging rights belong to the Blues.

Ruthin 2nds ended a superb 2019 with an emphatic victory over their local rivals Dinbych.

The game started with Ruthin yet again being dominant in the set piece.

The Division Three (North) leaders are becoming well known for their set piece and the first try came from a mauling lineout deep within the Dinbych 22.

Dwayne Speakman took the credit for the unconverted try.

Dinbych came back straight away with a penalty, which gave them confidence for further scores.

The away side were giving a good account of themselves, but the Ruthin defence stood strong with some excellent tackling from the whole team.

The next score came from the evergreen Huw Parry, who latched onto a spectacular pass and danced his way through the Dinbych defence to score in the corner.

Deian Williams slotted over the conversion and he then wanted to show his own running ability after the restart.

Williams dashed down the wing, handing off a number of Dinbych defenders to score himself in the same corner as Parry.

The icing on the cake was Deian Williams converted his own try.

Further scores again came from Huw Parry and Deian Williams as Ruthin stretched their advantage.

However, after the score from Parry, a Dinbych player pushed the try scorer and Lewis asked the opposition player for a high five.

The referee decided they might want to continue their conversation on the sidelines and gave them both a yellow card.

Penalties started to mount up for the home side and during a strong defensive display, captain Joe Mault was sin binned for ill discipline. During the subsequent play, Dinbych scored their only try with only 13 Ruthin players on the pitch.

The Blues returned to full compliment of players and they launched a flurry of attacks.

To the joy of the home side, former Dinbych player Jake Lloyd scored following a sweeping move from the backs.

The forwards wanted to have the last word and from a five-metre scrum, they pushed over the Dinbych line.

Spritely scrum half Ifan Clwyd took advantage of the forwards' efforts to score the try himself.
