CORWEN 2

LLANDUDNO 2

TWO goals in the final 20 minutes denied Corwen a notable JD Cymru North win in their home clash with former top flight side Llandudno.

After a couple of games on the 3G surface at Maes Tegid in Bala, Corwen returned to War Memorial Park to tackle a Llandudno side that had beaten them 3-1 on the opening day of the season.

Early Corwen chances went the way of Iorwerth ‘Ioz’ Jones and Ryan Billington, while at the other end, Jacob Farleigh poked a shot just wide of the post.

A great save from Shaun Pearson denied Tom Williams the opening goal after a quarter-of-an-hour, while Corwen keeper Dylan Jones was at his best to save from Llandudno's Robert Parry soon after.

On the brink of half time, Joe Williams collected the ball on the edge of the box and had time to pick his spot before finding the top corner with a fine finish that went beyond the reach of Shaun Pearson.

Things got even better for Corwen just five minutes after the break.

Ioz Jones saw off the challenge of a defender and got within shooting range, where he slotted the ball through Shaun Pearson’s legs and into the back of the net to double the home side’s lead.

The hosts had a really good spell following the second goal and Tom Williams was able to force a save out of the Llandudno keeper.

Joe Williams was bearing down on goal in search of his second goal of the afternoon, forcing Shaun Pearson to come off his line and meet the striker, with the latter saving the eventual shot.

As the game entered the final 20 minutes, the visitors collected the ball in midfield, which was then played across for Robert Parry to run at goal.

Parry's shot awkwardly bounced in front of Dylan Jones and it went over his head after hitting his chest.

Llandudno sub Alexander Roberts won the race with Matty Williams to knock the ball into the net and make it 2-1.

Corwen looked for an immediate response, but they were unable to get the better of the Llandudno goalkeeper.

The away side looked to level things up from a corner, which was initially headed away on the goal line and into the path of Lee Thomas, who sent his close range shot into the side netting.

With twelve minutes to play, Corwen gave away a their 12th penalty of the campaign.

Robert Parry took the spot kick and he sent Dylan Jones the wrong way to make it two-apiece.
