DENBIGH TOWN 2

HOLYHEAD HOTSPUR 2

THE biggest match so far this season in Division One of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League ended up level.

Denbigh Town went into their game last weekend knowing a win over leaders Holyhead Hotspur was required.

There was an eight-point gap between the teams before kick-off and that remains the same following a fiercely fought 2-2 draw.

Denbigh couldn't have hoped for a better start and they were in front after only three minutes.

This goal came from a deft lob by Dan Lloyd to Mark Roberts, who headed backwards for Jacob Barratt to flick in superbly from 10 yards out with Hotspur keeper Carl Jones stranded.

Holyhead responded well and they went on to dominate most of the first half with plenty of possession.

However, it was Denbigh who scored next on 24 minutes.

A through ball to Mark Roberts saw him beat the offside trap and dribble round Jones to give Denbigh a two-goal cushion.

Hotspur were still well in the contest and it wasn’t long before their pressure told.

When Denbigh failed to clear a free kick, Michael Roberts fired in from 12 yards, giving Town keeper Joe Griffith no chance.

A feisty second half saw plenty of yellow cards, with Denbigh also seeing more of the ball.

Industrious midfielders Paul Fleming and Will Ashley helped Denbigh to some good spells, but it was Holyhead who looked the more dangerous as the game progressed.

It was level on 76 minutes.

Deian Parry finished clinically from 12 yards to give the visitors their equaliser.

Denbigh did have a chance to regain the lead six minutes later as Jacob Barratt had space just inside the Holyhead area, but his effort was off target.

Both teams looked for a winner in the latter stages, but neither could get the finish they wanted and the game ended in a draw.
