A FOUR-MIDABLE success made it a terrific weekend for Llangollen Rugby Club!

Continuing their series of friendly encounters, Llangollen grabbed four tries against a spirited Rhyl side.

The Dee Valley side welcomed Rhyl 2nds to Tower Fields last weekend with a view to avenge the defeat they suffered when they travelled up to the seaside club earlier in the season.

The first 10 minutes proved to be a scrappy affair, with neither team making many inroads in attack.

However, the breakthrough came not long afterwards when the ball came out of a ruck into open field.

With quick hand, full back Ryan Edwards received the ball and managed to get over in the corner.

Wynn Jones slotted a difficult kick to put Llan into a 7-0 lead.

This gave Llangollen a platform and playing with more confidence, the pack drove forward on a five-metre scrum.

Scrum half Charlie Turner picked up and darted over the line.

Some poor defensive work from Llan allowed Rhyl to respond with a try of their own early in the second half.

Llangollen bounced back and they managed to regroup.

Ryan Griffiths showed good composure to round three players and claim the next try.

Following this, both teams picked up yellow cards for high tackles, even though the game was played in the correct manner.

There was a further try down the wing for Rhyl, but the final score of the game went to Llangollen.

It came from a terrific break by Morgan Hughes, who ran close to the whole length of the field, only to be caught five metres out.

He had the composure to pop the ball up to supporting man of the match Charlie Turner, who finished the move off as Llan won 24-10.
