ALTHOUGH Prestatyn Running Club had a lower turnout than usual at the North Wales cross-country championships at Northop on Saturday, six members came away with individual medals.

Eleven members of the club doubled up on New Year’s Day by taking part in the Chester parkrun and they then travelled to Connah’s Quay for the Wepre run.

This weekend will test the stamina and dedication of members, as Saturday’s fourth fixture of the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League in Shrewsbury is followed on Sunday by the fourth race in the Borders Road-Running League at Abergele.

Prestatyn Running Club’s Julie Evans had her New Year resolution fixed for her when she won the draw for the club place in this year’s London Marathon.

Her training got underway immediately when she was the club’s sole representative in the Round-the-Walls race in Chester on Boxing Day.

Despite feeling under the weather, she was pleased with her time of 52.14, which placed her in 449th position.

She was also among 26 members who turned out in parkruns on the final Saturday of the year - 24 of them at the Nova – and she was one of seven to record personal bests.

On a visit to Cardiff, Dean Longley took part in the Old Father Time 5-mile race, which is open to veterans only.

Despite having missed three weeks of training recently, he finished fifth overall in a nippy 27.27.
