CARDIFF MET 1

BALA TOWN 0

AS far as games go, Saturday’s JD Cymru Premier encounter between Cardiff Met and Bala Town will probably go down as one of the worst games of football in a very long time.

The major factor and man of the match was the wind, which caused havoc throughout the game and was instrumental in Cardiff Met’s winning goal in added time.

The wind was with the Lakesiders in the first half and they had a couple of decent early opportunities, with Fuller denying a Robles chance and then Andy Burns’ 25-yard effort soared over the crossbar.

Cardiff Met had a chance to go ahead when Davies capitalised on Bala losing possession, drove forward and attempted a strike from 35 yards, which flew out of play.

Bala were having a comfortable spell of pressure with an attack down the left leading to Steve Leslie floating a cross over the woodwork, prior to Henry Jones and Kieran Smith playing a tidy one-two to deliver into Chris Venables, but Fuller saved.

Towards the end of the half, Bala had a series of corners, but they weren’t able to capitalise on these and it was level at the break.

The second half was very uneventful, with neither team testing their respective goalkeepers and the majority of play was in the middle third.

A cross from the right saw a Met chance flash across the face of goal, before Josh Tibbetts made a comfortable save from Evans’ effort.

Anthony Stephens’ delivery into the area was met by an unmarked Venables at the back post, but it lacked power and was collected by Fuller.

Bala did have the ball in the net in the 85th minute, but it was ruled out for an alleged foul on the keeper.

As two minutes of injury time was about to end, Bala were dealt a massive blow.

Will Evans’ cross was caught in a gust of wind.

It deceived Town goalkeeper Josh Tibbetts and curled into the far post to give the Archers a valuable three points.

This was an absolute sicker for the Lakesiders in a game which neither team deserved to win in difficult playing conditions.
