RHYL ALL STARS 3

DENBIGH TOWN DEVELOPMENT 3

(Denbigh won 5-4 on penalties)

A CUP cracker ended with Denbigh Town Development making progress over the weekend.

Rhyl All Stars were Denbigh's hosts for an exciting REM Jones Cup second round encounter.

The sides could not be separated after they shared six goals during two hours of football and eventually, it was Denbigh who progressed after a 5-4 penalty shootout success.

Denbigh went into the tie as the favourites to make it through, but they fell behind after just six minutes with Jamie Hughes giving the All Stars the lead.

Back came the visitors, though, and Rob Lawson levelled things up after half-an-hour.

That wasn't quite the end of the first half drama and Adam Cassidy regained the lead for the hosts seven minutes shy of the interval.

Just one further goal would arrive in the second period and it went in Denbigh's favour.

Jack James made it two-apiece after 48 minutes.

Turning to extra time and Denbigh claimed the lead for the first time when Joel Rowlands struck in the 96th minute.

There was time for further drama to arrive and Ricky Roberts levelled things up once again five minutes from the conclusion of extra time.

This meant the tie would have to be settled by penalties.

The hero of the hour for Denbigh was goalkeeper Tommy Hughes, who saved three penalties, and the visitors triumphed in the shootout by a 5-4 margin.
