DOLGELLAU 15

RUTHIN 22

THE Blues managed to make a welcome return to winning ways over the weekend.

Seven days after slipping to a surprise loss at Llangefni, Ruthin secured a 22-15 success during their WRU League Division One (North) trip to Dolgellau.

Ruthin defended against a vigorous Dolgellau attack from the kick-off before play moved into the home side’s 22.

This was the pattern for the first 20 minutes, with both sides having to defend against the opposition’s attack in their own 22.

The stalemate was eventually broken when after some good phase play, Ruthin wing Josh Wilson was released down the touchline for the first try of the afternoon.

Ruthin kept up the pressure after this and 10 minutes later, second row Chris Davies went over the whitewash, with full back Dyfan Humphreys adding the extras.

Dolgellau responded to these setbacks and for the next 10 minutes, Ruthin were forced to to defend against the home side’s attempts to get points on the board.

Eventually, this pressure told and second row Rhys Roberts scored.

Play returned to Dolgellau’s half but there was no further score and the first half ended with Ruthin ahead 12-5.

Within a minute of the second half starting, Dolgellau had reduced the arrears to two points when wing Geraint Owen scored a try.

For the next 20 minutes or so, the home side’s defence held against repeated attempts by Ruthin to widen the gap.

A penalty goal attempt went wide and then with a quarter-of-an-hour to go, replacement Jamie Jones found a way through with an unconverted try.

The visitors kept up the pressure and five minutes before full time, Jordan Jones made good ground upfield and Josh Wilson finished off the move with Ruthin’s bonus point try.

Dolgellau returned to the attack and in the last move of the match, prop Eon Williams nipped over Ruthin’s line for his side's third try.

This ensured a losing bonus point for the hosts and the whistle blew with Ruthin winning 22-15.
