RUTHIN 2NDS 9

IMPRESSIVE Ruthin 2nds maintained their 100 per cent winning record with a fantastic team performance at Machynlleth.

It was evident from the warm up that Pedr Jones men were fully focused on the job at hand.

This was arguably Ruthin's biggest test so far this season, with the league leading Blues travelling to their promotion rivals.

The game was a physical arm wrestle from the off and it didn’t let up for the full 80 minutes.

Fortunately for Ruthin, they had just the man for the occasion in the shape of John ‘Mawr’ Jones!

Time after time, the Machynlleth forwards ran into the man mountain, only to be stopped dead in their tracks and the ball was removed from their possession.

Jones certainly had an inspired game.

To be fair, the whole Ruthin pack were getting stuck in and winning the big collisions.

After a couple of fruitless visits into the Machynlleth 22, Ruthin captain Huw Parry opted to start going for the three-point options.

Two well struck Deian Williams penalties saw Ruthin hold a slender 6-0 lead at half-time.

The view at half time was that the game could still go either way and Ruthin couldn’t let up their intensity.

The introduction of Jason Humphries brought further firepower in the forwards. From another powerful scum, Williams slotted his third penalty of the day to make it 9-0.

Ruthin continued to edge the encounter and further strong runs by Eoin Kent took the Blues to within five metres of the line.

However, with a score looking inevitable, Deian Williams had brain freeze and attempted a drop kick that went straight into the hands of the hosts.

Mach rallied for the final 15 minutes, but they couldn’t breach the Ruthin defence, led by outside half and man of the match Steff Parry, who put his body on the line all afternoon.
