NANTLLE VALE 2

LLANDYRNOG UNITED 0

A GOAL in each half did the trick to make sure it was a losing weekend for Llandyrnog United.

In their latest spot of Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division One action, United paid a visit to mid-table Nantlle Vale.

Llandyrnog boss Jimmy McNally said: "We were missing some key players, but the lads stepped up their game and worked hard all over the park, despite a few playing out of position.

"Chris Evans filled in at centre back and gave a good account of himself, as did Sam Davies at right back.

"It was another top performance from young Murray Hughes in midfield, alongside Ross Gilbert, who dropped into the central midfield berth and didn't disappoint.

"Daniel Lewis had a promising first half before he had to be replaced early in the second half."

A quick counter-attack from a Llandyrnog free kick led to Nantlle Vale taking the lead.

The 35th minute move ended with Gavin Edwards finding the back of the net.

Llandyrnog remained well in the game until late on, when Gethin Thomas popped up with the home side's second goal of the afternoon.

"Barney Murray was outstanding between the sticks for us, pulling off a miraculous save shortly before their second," added McNally.

"Youngsters Eddie Evans and Mikey Guest worked tirelessly up top."
