CORWEN RESERVES 1

MOLD ALEX RESERVES 2

DESPITE it being February, Corwen Reserves took to the field at War Memorial Park for only the third time this season... and for the first time since August!

The match against Mold Alex was also their first Saturday home game in the Wrexham Area League all season.

The visitors, who sit top of the league, took an early lead as Luke Woolley broke the deadlock in the fourth minute.

The home side went in search of an equaliser as Andrew Roberts held the ball up for Owen Cordiner, who saw his shot smash against the bar.

It looked as if the score was going to be level when Andrew Roberts got his head on to the end of a cross, but he could only force a good save out of keeper Jarrod Christopher.

At the opposite end, Luke Woolley went in search of his second of the game, but his close range effort was met by a great save from goalkeeper Nathan Roberts.

Ten minutes before the break and Mold were awarded a penalty, despite the Corwen players being adamant that the visiting player had dived.

Cameron Gardner was given responsibility of taking the spot kick and he sent Roberts the wrong way to double his side’s advantage.

Soon after, Corwen gave the ball away in the danger area, allowing David Gleave to poke a shot at goal, with Roberts saving with his feet.

Just before the interval Luke Woolley ran at goal with the ball, but Ryan Roberts was able to get back and block his shot, while Nathan Roberts was able to save Luke Woolley’s second effort.

The hosts pulled a goal back 10 minutes after the break.

Will Hughes played a good cross into the path of Andrew Roberts, who was able to find the top corner of the net with a fine finish.

A Kian Harrison corner was initially cleared by the Mold defence, but only as far as Owen Cordiner, who sent his shot over the bar.

The away side looked to seal the victory on the counter attack and Arron Davies got within shooting range, but he fired his shot wide of the far post.

Mold’s Adam Renshaw chased down the loose ball before being challenged by Robert Lewis and under pressure, Adam Renshaw sent his shot wide of the post.

With four minutes of the 90 to play a throw in was collected by Andrew Roberts, who could only send his shot on the turn over the bar.

In stoppage time, Scott Evans saw his shot saved by Jarrod Christopher, who saw the ball rebound to another Corwen player, whose shot was blocked and a third effort from Corwen was cleared.
