LLANBERIS 1

LLANDYRNOG UNITED 2

THE belief is certainly starting to return from the perspective of Llandyrnog United.

The villagers boosted their hopes of beating the drop from Division One of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance by claiming a superb 2-1 success at Llanberis.

This was only Llandyrnog's third league win of the campaign and delighted team boss Jimmy McNally said: "A great team display saw us pick up a deserved and well earned three points.

"I was really impressed with how we applied ourselves in the game.

"We had a momentary lack of concentration which led to their equaliser and as disappointed as I was with the manner of how we lost the goal, the lads made up for it with their sheer grit and determination to grind out a result.

"We seem to be building up that belief in ourselves that we've lacked for a number of weeks.

"But we must build on it and try and improve each week."

While the first half was relatively even, it was Llandyrnog who created the better chances.

Veteran Derry Morris had an effort cleared off the line, while Ross Gilbert should have had a shot instead of teeing up Eddie Evans, whose attempt was blocked by a defender.

Eventually, United claimed the lead on the stroke of half time.

Daniel Lewis' firmly struck free kick took a minor deflection on its way into the net.

There was a sloppy start to the second half from the visitors and Llanberis took advantage to draw level.

Llandyrnog failed to clear their lines and Gareth Edwards made it one-apiece.

United responded to this setback, showing real fight and persistence during the second half.

Daniel Lewis went close to scoring again from another free kick, while the game's pivotal moment came with 10 minutes remaining.

Mikey Guest brought the ball down well, took it around a defender and slammed his effort into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards.

Instead of sitting back, Llandyrnog continued to press and Nathan Rose went close to grabbing a third goal, but he was denied by a brilliant save.

Ross Gilbert was impressive up front for United, while youngster Tom Kelly gave a man of the match performance at the heart of the defence.
