CORWEN RESERVES 6

HAWARDEN RANGERS RES 3

SIX of the best made it a weekend to remember for Corwen Reserves to begin March in the best possible manner.

After a three-week hiatus, Corwen Reserves took to the War Memorial Park field for only the fourth time this season, which seems bizarre considering we are in March.

The visitors were a very youthful Hawarden Rangers side, who were attacking the tennis court end of the ground in the opening period and had the advantage of playing with the strong wind.

In the 20th minute, Corwen played the ball down the wing, where Tom Williams went past Ayden de Winter and crossed into the path of Andrew Roberts, who put his shot narrowly wide.

A couple of minutes later and Nick Jones set up Ioz Jones, who shot over the bar.

At the other end, Louis Anglesea went for goal from distance, but sent his effort wide of the target.

With 33 minutes fone, visiting goalkeeper Connor Spencer-Wilson claimed an assist as he played a long ball forward.

The Corwen defence failed to clear and that allowed Ryan Tierney to get through on goal and slot the ball in off the far post.

Hawarden doubled their advantage five minutes before the break as Louis Anglesea sent a good shot beyond the reach of Dylan Jones.

Going two goals down seemed to click the hosts into gear and a minute later, Tom Williams struck to reduce the deficit.

It was all-square on the brink of half-time as Scott Evans netted a rebound after his initial shot was saved.

Two minutes after the restart and Corwen went ahead.

Ioz Jones' shot on the turn hit the back of the net despite the best efforts of Connor Spencer-Wilson.

Corwen went further clear when a free kick got caught in the wind and Connor de Winter had the misfortune of heading the ball into his net.

The hosts made it five when the ball found its way to Ryan Roberts and he was able to find the back of the net.

Corwen's goal-den spell continued in the 77th minute.

A powerful shot from Tom Williams got the better of Connor Spencer-Wilson.

That wasn't quite the end of the scoring, though, and Hawarden gained some reward for their efforts in stoppage time.

Ryan Tierney got his second goal of the afternoon to compete the scoring.
