A NEW team based in Denbigh is looking to take the lower leagues of North Wales football by storm in 2020/21.

The management team of Andy Pace, John Wood, Lloyd Hubbard and Keiran Kendrick - who who will run Caer Clwyd FC - say there is "no limit to their ambition".

The club has secured a pitch deal to use Myddleton College for the upcoming campaign - which has multiple facilities in place; including a fully-equipped sports hall and home and away changing rooms.

Speaking to The Free Press, the management team added: "The pitch is one of the best grounds in the area. The plan to set up a team was a group idea between the four of us. We were coaching Henllan Juniors, Denbigh Ladies and we also tried to start a Henllan Senior Development team which unfortunately didn't take off.

"Alongside coaching, we also play senior football. We were at Henllan FC together until the end of last season when we moved to different clubs. The desire and passion to start our own team together as friends has been an idea long in the making and we are so excited to get it started."

The management team won a full Puma kit from BT Sport last year, which has given them their purple colour theme.

Caer Clwyd means 'Fortress of the Clwyd' in Welsh and the club badge is based on the jubilee tower on top of Moel Famau and it was brought to life by Huntman Productions - who will als be doing all the design work for the club.

The management team continued: "We are aiming to meet the criteria for tier 4 with the certainty of Tier 5 as a guarantee. The coronavirus has obviously set us back as well as many other teams, but we are hopeful and determined not to let this stop us reaching our ambitions.

"Andy Pace will be our Manager with Keiran, Lloyd and John being Assistants officially but it will be managed, coached and ran by the four of us equally.

"Due to the ongoing season we cannot look at other players affiliated to other clubs but we have a few players who haven't played in a few years who are keen to play for us.

"In our opinion regarding the new requirements we think it is going to be difficult for low level clubs to meet this criteria. But on a plus side it will drastically improve football grounds.

"We would like to thank the Hope and Anchor in Denbigh for being our official pub sponsor for the upcoming season. They have agreed to support us for all activities such as fund raising, race nights, and post match refreshments including home made food.

"We would also like to thank Jewsons Denbigh, Travis Perkins Denbigh, Richard Williams Ruthin and Thornecliffes Ewloe for donating the materials to build our dugouts."
