WITH the 2019/20 Cymru Premier season currently put on hold due to coronavirus, many of us will be missing top-flight Welsh football.

Having said that, now is probably a better time than any to reflect on what Denbighshire's only Cymru Premier side - Bala Town FC - has achieve to date.

League officials recently dived into their in-depth data for the current season to find out who the league’s top performers have been in a range of statistical categories. Two names in particular stood out for The Lakesiders - who currently sit in third place in the table.

First off was a look at the 'InStat Index' of players. This is counted in every match and based on the quantitative characteristics of player actions.

The index is also influenced by Match Level Coefficient (MLC) which takes into consideration the quality of actions made by his partners, opposition players and the player himself.

The quality is determined for some actions in the process of analysing the game in strict compliance with the InStat methodology. With that in mind, it was revealed that Bala midfielder Henry Jones ranked third overall with a InStat Index of 247.

The rest of the top five were made up of The New Saints (TNS) players, namely Ryan Brobbel (274) and Danny Redmond (253) ahead of Jones and Chris Marriott and Adrian Cieslewicz both behind him on 246.

Jones also ranked fourth in the Key Passes category which counts any pass made to a team mate in a goal scoring position or one which “cuts off” the whole defensive line of the opponent’s team.

Stats revealed that Jones has made 56 key passes with only TNS trio Brobbel (115), Cieslewicz (71) and Redmond (68) ahead of him.

Another Bala star stood out in the 'Ball Recoveries' department. Defender Anthony Stephens has been a rock at the back for The Lakesiders and these stats further proved that, showing that he had cut out the opposition on 295 occasions this season, with only Emlyn Lewis of Cardiff Met having made more (297).

Free-scoring midfielder and captain Chris Venables is surely a contender for Cymru Premier player of the season, having hit 22 goals in 29 appearances.

Andy Burns and Sean Smith have made the most appearances for The Lakesiders with 31 each in all competitions.
