CORWEN FC and Ruthin Town FC have both been awarded the Tier Two licence for the 2020/21 season.

The decision by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) to grant both clubs this licence means they will remain in the Cymru North division, providing they are not relegated should the current campaign ever resume.

The FAW Tier Two First Instance Body met remotely on May 7 to consider the Tier Two Certification Applications for the 2020/21 season.

The Panel assessed 47 applicants and clubs were judged against a number of infrastructure and personnel criteria.

Corwen and Ruthin joined the likes of Flint Town United and Bangor City in having their applications granted by the FAW.

Meanwhile, Denbigh Town, who currently play in Welsh Alliance One and are third in the table, have also been granted approval to play in Tier Two next season if they are promoted should the season resume or the league structures change in any way.

Other clubs such as Colwyn Bay and Llanelli Town were unsuccessful in their attempts to gain a Tier Two licence, but will have the opportunity to appeal the decision.

The news of a successful Tier Two application comes as a particularly positive one for Corwen FC, who can now, potentially at least, look forward to a second successive season in the Cymru North division, having first been promoted to it last summer.

Speaking after being granted the licence, a club spokesperson said: "Corwen FC are delighted to announce that we have retained our FAW Tier 2 licence for season 2020/21.

"Thank you to all concerned for their hard work and continued support."

Ruthin Town have been playing in the Cymru North (formerly Huws Gray Alliance) division since the 2016/17 season.

They were ever-present in the league from the 1992/93 season right up until they were relegated to the Cymru Alliance in 2013/14 and eventually made their comeback three season later.

Ruthin are currently sat in twelfth place in the league table (out of 17 teams). Their best season in the division so far came in 2003/04, when they finished third on 64 points.
