RUTHIN Cricket Club's Firsts bounced back from their defeat to Mold last weekend to beat Marchwiel and Wrexham by 76 runs.

Harry Pooler was particularly impressive in the Group B encounter as the Firsts made it two wins out of three, having also beaten Abergele on the opening weekend.

Pooler carried his bat for 53 no in Ruthin’s effort of 196 at home, Nathan Mathews 3-32 for the opposition.

The visitors were then all back in the hutch for 120, Joshua Duckworth a superb 5-26 and Pooler 3-25 for the hosts, George Forgrave (43) doing well for the visitors. Points: 13-2 Ruthin.

Meanwhile Ruthin's Seconds also picked up victory over Marchwiel and Wrexham Seconds in Group F, beating their opponents by 54 runs.

Dyfan Humphreys, who displayed excellent quality keeping, two catches and a stumping, Alun Jones (four wickets in two overs) and 13-year-old Osian Roberts, who bowled eight full overs, no wides, four maidens (two wicket maidens) and only gave away seven runs, were all in fine form.

This coming weekend, they have a double header on Saturday against Connahs Quay (Firsts away, Seconds at home) and a friendly on the Sunday against Corwen away.

Elsewhere, in Group B, Matthew Cree and Matthew Thompson both notched half-centuries as narrow Group B leaders Gresford outscored Denbigh at Clappers Lane. Points: 12-3 Gresford.

Group C leaders Connah’s Quay impressed too as they made it three straight wins in Group C with a 49-run victory at Abergele, the visitors taking the honours 13-2. Gele’s latest North Wales Cricket League Group C clash saw them perform well but they ultimately came up short.
