BALA TOWN have added a vastly experienced defender/midfielder to their ranks as their sixth summer signing.

37-year-old Antony Kay has made the switch to The Lakesiders from National League North side Chorley FC.

Kay has previously played as high up as in the EFL Championship, where he racked up a combined 66 appearances for both his hometown club Barnsley in 2006/07 and MK Dons in 2015/16.

Previous clubs include Tranmere Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Bury and Port Vale. In total, he played 599 league games for his previous clubs.

Kay has also been capped for the England U18’s squad, when he came on as a substitute against Switzerland on May 30, 2001.

He is Bala Town's sixth signing of the summer, following on from goalkeeper Alex Ramsay (Caernarfon Town), defender Nathan Peate (Cefn Druids), midfielder Will Evans (Cardiff Met) and strikers Llyr Morris (Ruthin Town) and Raul Correia (Southport).

Speaking about Kay, Bala Town manager Colin Caton said: "He came available to us through being friends with Lee Molyneux, so we brought him in and played for us in a pre season friendly, and he did really well.

"The calibre of him and the amount of league games he’s played, the experience he will add to the squad is something we couldn’t turn down, he’s come out of the fulltime game and now wants to play part time, to allow him to pursue a different career.

"We’re fortunate to have him, the pedigree and calibre of him is unbelievable, he’ll add so much experience to our defensive structure and can’t wait to work with him.

"In the short time I’ve worked with him, his attitude is second to none, so you can see why he played at the top for a long time, and hope he can rub off on some of our younger players, to change their outlook on how they approach games, so really looking forward to working with him”.
