ABERGELE were unable to turn around their recent poor form in a six-wicket reverse at Marchwiel and Wrexham.

The North Wales Cricket League Group C side left themselves with too much to do after another below-par performance at the crease that resulted in Gele being all out for 114 from nearly 37 overs of play.

Things might have look far bleaker for the visitors has Sam Painter and Ed Rooney not produced scores of 26 and 20 later down the batting order, with only Luke Sellers (16) and David Williams (10) achieving double-digits early on as they struggled to deal with perfect bowling conditions.

A sensational spell from Sion Edwards saw the bowler claim a five-wicket haul for the loss of just 12 runs, which played a leading role in his side’s eventual triumph.

Another home player to catch the eye with the ball was Ryan Williams, who helped himself to a pair of scalps at the expense of 20 runs.

Karl Higgins got Gele off to a promising start with the new ball by disposing of talented opener Michael Forgrave for ten, and Lewis Tolond kept things moderately interesting by taking out skipper Sam Shoemark on 26.

Wicketkeeper-batsman George Forgrave was trapped lbw by Renit Adke after he made 11, but a quick-fire 29 from 42 deliveries by Sam Heard-Edwards swung momentum further in the home side’s favour before he was eventually removed by Rooney.

Nick Husbands managed to see out the run chase with an unbeaten 23 as the hosts secured victory with eight over of play remaining.
