TWO separate Ruthin Town sides managed to win two matches in a day for the club on Saturday.

The double-header was set up to give much needed minutes to the players ahead of the competitive action starting on Saturday against Conwy Borough in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

One Ruthin side beat a spirited Llansannan side 1-0 and the other got the better of local rivals Corwen with a 4-0 victory.

Forward Matty Hill’s strike was the difference in the match v Llansannan, who once again proved to be a tricky test for higher league opposition.

Just last week, Tom Lewis’ side had put in a real fight against another tier two side - Conwy Borough, as they lost out 3-1 in the end.

In the other game Ruthin played on Saturday, Mussab Benaly and Wil Owen were both at the double as they overcame Corwen 4-0.

Commenting on social media following the club’s double victory, manager Phil Hudson said: “Great performance from both sides today, two games, two wins, two clean sheets.

“We will train this week and be ready for the return of competitive football next week. Well done to Ruthin Town players today who were involved in both games.”

Following their Nathaniel MG Cup match this coming Saturday, Ruthin will then be looking forward to starting further competitive action with JD Cymru North scheduled for a January restart.

It will see the league shortened to a 15-match season, with each club playing each other just once, with clubs scheduled to play eight home matches determined by a draw.
