HENRY Jones salvaged a late point for Bala Town as his injury-time header secured a 1-1 draw at Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed Campus.

The Lakesiders lost even further ground in the race for the 2020/21 JD Cymru Premier title in what was their second consecutive draw following another 1-1 draw at Caernarfon Town in mid-week.

All eyes were on Will Evans in the build up to this encounter, as he had made the switch from Cardiff Met to Bala over the summer. The midfielder has been in fantastic form ever since, notching up nine goals in just 14 JD Cymru Premier matches this season.

However, it was the Archers who will have thought they had gone and won the game when Ollie Hulbert scored just five minutes from time, before Jones’ even later heroics earned Bala a valuable point.

Cardiff Met started the game off well, having their first chance just three minutes in. However, just seconds later, a mix up between their goalkeeper and defence almost lead to a Bala goal, but they were able to clear the danger.

20mins in, a great chance fell Bala’s way as Evans’ cross hit the bar and almost reached skipper Chris Venables from the rebound. Six minutes later, the eventual hero of the day Jones was introduced onto the field in place of the injured Raul Correia.

And the Swansea City youth academy product was straight into the action, as his free kick from the right hand side was saved well.

Just before half time, Ryan Pryce put in a lovely ball towards Venables, but his header went wide as the deadlock couldn’t be broken before the break.

Early on in the second half, Gary Roberts found Jones, whose effort on his weaker foot went over the bar, before Jones again went close when he poked the ball past the keeper, but also past the post with 15 minutes of play left.

But, despite Bala being on top for most of the second half, it was Met who would score first, Ollie Hulbert sliding the ball home for what looked like the winner.

Bala had other ideas and kept pushing for that equaliser, Evans going close with a half volley from the edge of the box before super-sub Jones headed home in stoppage time for 1-1.
