BALA TOWN’S Chris Venables and Will Evans have been selected in ‘Sgorio’s Five On-form So Far’ team for their efforts during the 2020/21 JD Cymru Premier season to date.

The five-a-side team, chosen by supporters of the league, was unveiled via the S4C football programme’s Twitter page on Monday.

Bala skipper Venables (below) took a massive 70% of the fan vote in his match-up with TNS’ Greg Draper (21%) and Connah’s Quay’s veteran forward Mike Wilde (9%).

Midfielder Evans received 68% of the vote against his opponents; Jack Wilson of Haverfordwest County (20%) and Connah’s Quay’s Danny Davies (12%).

Making up the rest of Sgorio’s Five On-form So far team was former Bala Town goalkeeper Josh Tibbetts (now with Caernarfon Town), Connah’s Quay defender Priestley Farquharson and TNS’ talented midfielder Leo Smith.

Bala Town’s Nathan Peate was also nominated but was narrowly beaten (36% of the vote) in the defensive battle by Farquharson (42%).

Ashley Morris (Penybont), Paul Harrison (TNS), Ryan Astles (TNS), Kane Owen (Penybont), Aeron Edwards (Connah’s Quay) were the other players nominated in the vote.

Both Venables and summer signing Evans have been the standout stars for the Lakesiders this season, staying in fine form throughout.

Club captain Venables, who has been with the club since 2016, is on his way to securing another top-flight Golden Boot having notched up 15 goals in as many matches.

Evans, who arrived from Cardiff Met Uni in the summer, has scored 10 goals in 15 matches and his endless work rate in the middle of the park has been a real boost to Colin Caton’s side.

With the JD Cymru Premier season currently on hold due to the current Covid-19 guidelines, the Lakesiders are sat third in the table on 35 points - nine points behind league-leaders TNS with a game in hand.

The 39 goals they've scored in the league are the second-most behind TNS' 49 and Venables and Evans' free-scoring form has contributed a phenomenal 25 goals of that tally.
