BALA TOWN'S Danny Gosset returned to competitive action on Saturday - nearly two years after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The 26-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute for Raul Correia in the Lakesiders' 3-1 JD Cymru Premier win at Cefn Druids.

Gosset, who hails from Y Felinheli near Bangor, was diagnosed with B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on August 16, 2019, after initially suffering from a dull ache in his hip.

He then underwent courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy before being given the ‘all clear’ in January last year.

After returning to competitive action on Saturday, Gosset took to social media to write: "It's been a minute ... Great win and an amazing feeling to be back on the pitch last weekend. I was told this may never be an option for me again.

"Against the odds I always visualised myself back playing. The countless hours of rehab and gym work felt like it paid off."

The central midfielder joined Bala from Bangor City in 2018 and has also previously represented the likes of Rhyl, The New Saints and English Football League club Oldham Athletic, as well as the Cymru C squad.

Gosset had been a big part of The Lakesiders squad before having to miss the whole of last season following his diagnosis.

Bala Town boss Colin Caton told the Denbighshire Free Press last week that Gosset's return to action would be 'like a new signing' and believed he could yet go on to make an impact for the club for the remainder of this season.
