VETERAN forward Michael Wilde netted his 200th JD Cymru Premier goal as Connah’s Quay Nomads extended their lead at the top of the table to six points on Saturday.

Andy Morrison’s side picked up another three points as they beat an in-form Haverfordwest County, who had beat The New Saints (TNS) 2-1 just a week earlier, 2-0 at the Deeside stadium.

Having defeated Bala Town 3-1 last Tuesday, the Nomads continued their great run of form on Saturday.

Defender George Horan opened the scoring on 45 minutes before Wilde was on hand to poke home from close range.

That was a significant moment for the 37-year-old striker as he bagged his 200th top-flight goal, having previously played for and become record goalscorer at TNS (although that has now been broken by Greg Draper).

That decisive goal was Wilde’s 12th strike in just 17 appearances for the league-leaders this season as he continues to prove that age is just a number.

A win for the Nomads meant that their lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier table now stands at six points, with second placed TNS, who did not play over the weekend, having a game in hand.

Quay have won 17 of their 21 Welsh top-flight matches this season, losing just once.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Neil Gibson’s Flint Town United picked up a massive three points in their quest for safety as they beat high-flying Penybont 2-1 away.

A great first half performance saw goals from Sam Hart and Alex Jones give the Silkmen a 2-0 advantage at half time and they saw the game out well, with Lewis Clutton’s injury time goal for Bont nothing but a consolation.

Bala Town’s miserable run since the league re-start continued with a 2-1 loss at home to Caernarfon Town in the ‘Gwynedd Derby’.

Will Evans had given the Lakesiders the lead courtesy of his 11th goal of the season but a fine finish from former Bala forward Mike Hayes levelled the scoring early on in the second half.

Midfielder Paulo Mendes grabbed the winner 20 minutes from time as Colin Caton’s side were condemned to a second straight defeat in the league - although they remain third in the table.

It was a well-deserved and vital victory for Huw Griffith’s Cofis who move on up into sixth place as they capitalised on Havefordwest’s loss at the hands of the league-leaders.

Aberystwyth crept their way into ninth place as they battled their way to a 1-0 victory over Newtown, who had been in great goalscoring form prior to that encounter.

Harry Franklin’s goal for Aber in the 78th minute means there’s now just three points between the two sides in the league table, with both having played 20 matches each.

Finally, Cardiff Met and Cefn Druids played out a 0-0 draw.

The Archers seemed to be much the better team but could not take their chances against the side who are currently bottom of the JD Cymru Premier table.

The Ancients have also played one game more than Flint Town United, Met and Aberystwyth who are just above them.
