PRESTATYN Town FC great Jonathan Hill-Dunt has retired following a glittering career in Wales’ top three divisions.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper, known as Dunty, made his name in the Welsh Premier League during a 10-year stay at the Seasiders and became an asset to clubs he later joined including Denbigh Town, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 and Gresford Athletic.

Prestatyn Town FC said in a social media statement: “Everyone at Prestatyn Town Football Club would like to wish club legend Jonathan Dunt a very happy retirement.

“We want to thank you for all the great moments and dedication that you have given our fans. Be proud of what you have achieved. Good luck Jon we wish you all the best.”

A statement from the player himself on Twitter added; “With the news yesterday on our season being cancelled, that’s my playing career over. Gutted to have not had the chance to play this season as my last, but time to moan at ref’s on the sidelines now.”

Hill-Dunt gained youth experience with Wales Schoolboys, Rhyl, Llandudno and Chester City, before breaking into Prestatyn’s first team and making 133 appearances.

He put in a man-of-the-match performance during the club’s historic JD Welsh Cup win against Bangor in 2013, in which he saved a penalty and two extra time goals saw the side compete in the Europa League qualification phase the following season.

Hill-Dunt was a popular personality within the Prestatyn Town FC set up.

He joined second-tier Gresford in 2014 where he spent two seasons, before moving to Denbigh Town in 2016. The experienced shot-stopper made a number of impressive performances, despite struggling with injury, and contributed to a second place finish in the highly competitive Huws Gray Alliance.

He moved to Rhyl in 2018 and returned to Gresford in 2019.
