BALA Town’s difficult run since the JD Cymru Premier resumed continued with two defeats in the space of four days.

Since the top-flight returned post-lockdown, the Lakesiders have picked up four in as many matches.

Following the 0-0 draw with The New Saints on March 6 and the 3-1 win at Cefn Druids on March 13, Colin Caton's side have gone on to lose their next two matches against top six opposition.

A 3-1 defeat at the hands of league-leaders Connah's Quay was followed up by a 2-1 loss to rivals Caernarfon Town.

The first defeat against the Nomads came on Tuesday, March 16.

In that encounter, Bala had taken the lead in the very first minute through Raul Correia's second JD Cymru Premier goal this season. But, that lasted just three minutes before George Horan equalised in what was a frantic start to the match.

Connah's Quay stepped it up a gear or two in the second half and found a two-goal cushion through a Callum Morris penalty (66') and a Craig Curran goal four minutes from time.

Things went from bad to worse for Bala when centre back Johnny Spittle was sent off in stoppage time, summing up a difficult day overall.

Days later on Saturday (March 20), Bala would face Caernarfon Town at home in a match always dubbed the 'Gwynedd Derby'.

Again, they started off as the better team and found themselves ahead through the energetic Will Evans who scored his eleventh goal of the 20/21 campaign eleven minutes in.

But, the Cofis impressed on the day and earned themselves all three points with a hard-working performance in the second half.

Former Bala striker Mike Hayes came back to haunt them with a fine finish to equalise just two minutes into the second half and midfielder Paulo Mendes found the winner 20 minutes from time.

The win was a big one for Caernarfon as they moved up into sixth place - with just a few games remaining before the split.

Bala on the other hand remain eight points clear (39pts) of fourth placed Penybont but the two defeats have seen them fall behind in the race to catch TNS (48pts) and Connah's Quay (54pts).

After the match v Caernarfon, manager Colin Caton admitted that Bala's opponents deserved the win following their second half performance, telling S4C football show Sgorio: "They out-thought us, they out-fought us and they were much better than us in the second half."

In the interview with Sgorio, he added: "The lads need to improve or they won't be at the club. The performances since the restart have not been good enough."

Next up for Bala is a trip to Barry Town United next Saturday afternoon (2.30pm).
