BALA TOWN continued their push for a third-place finish in the JD Cymru Premier with a resounding 5-2 win over Caernarfon Town in the ‘Gwynedd Derby’.

Just a month ago, the Lakesiders were beaten 2-1 at home by the Cofis - a defeat which sparked a three-game losing streak for the club.

But, Saturday’s win over their rivals saw them make it two wins in a row in the top-flight following on from their impressive and hard-fought 3-2 victory at Penybont just four days earlier.

Colin Caton’s side headed into their third match of the Championship Conference unchanged from that win in South Wales.

The home side started the game on top and found the breakthrough when captain Chris Venables bagged his 20th goal of the season in the 20th minute.

Lassana Mendes put in a brilliant cross towards the skipper who made no mistake at the front post.

That lead didn’t last long however as Caernarfon found a way back into the game on 33mins - poor defending from Bala allowing Jake Bickerstaff to take a shot which curled past Alex Ramsay and in for 1-1.

Things got from bad to worse for Bala when former striker came back to haunt them, converting a penalty to give the Cofis the lead just before half time.

But, it has to be said, Bala came out fighting in the second half to earn the three points and get one over their rivals in the derby.

Jonny Spittle headed home from a corner to equalise on 57mins before Will Evans pounced onto a defensive mistake 10 minutes later to turn the tie on its head.

Venables and Evans then struck again very late on in the tie to secure a brilliant victory for Bala Town.

The win sees them go nine points clear of fourth-placed Barry Town United as they once again look to earn a European spot.
