BALA Town were undone by two late goals at Connah’s Quay as the Nomads opened up an 18-point gap between the two clubs in the JD Cymru Premier table.

The Lakesiders had enjoyed back-to-back wins over Penybont and Caernarfon Town before they played Quay at the Deeside Stadium on Tuesday, April 20.

And they battled well against Andy Morrison’s side, until a late lapse in concentration led to them conceding two goals in the dying moments.

In a game televised live through Sgorio’s social media pages, it was the visitors who began the game on the front foot creating early pressure.

The Nomads then went close 20mins in when the ball bounced around the box before a header bounced into the ground and over the bar.

Bala captain Chris Venables then cleared the ball off the line a few minutes later before Henry Jones went down in the Nomads box, but the referee waved play on.

In the second half, Bala had another penalty shout waved away - Jonny Spittle seemingly being taken out in the box this time.

The tie looked as though it was destined for a draw, with neither able to take their chances. That was until the finals five minutes.

That was when the Nomads really came to life and eventually found the breakthrough when Declan Poole hit a shot from outside the box which found its way in.

Just two minutes later, defender George Horan made it two when he headed home from a corner to secure another big win for Quay.

The result left Bala Town trailing the league’s ‘big two’ - TNS and Connah’s Quay (who are both on 66 points) - by a massive 18 points.

They are also eight points clear of Barry Town United in fourth, making that third spot there’s to lose with not many matches left to play this season. The two sides will meet in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday.
