WITH the opportunities to race still few and far between, Denbigh Harrier Emma Collins made the most of a trip over the border to compete in two races in a week.

First was the mid-week Leeds 5k on May 27, an evening race where the competitors were set off in three waves (Emma’s wave being 8:10pm) on an undulating three lap course around the cycle track at the Brownlee Centre.

Emma ran in a fantastic time of 0:21:20, finishing in 83rd place overall and taking the 1st V55 position.

Next up was the Saddleworth Cake Fell Race on 29/05/2021, a 10 mile course with 1700ft of climb. This was an interesting moorland course with as much cake as you’d like to eat at the end!

The course takes in open moorland scenery, industrial heritage, and Pennine farmland - mainly on flagged paths, tracks and trails with the challenge of going over the Pennines and back.

Emma finished in 10th lady position and 2nd in her age group in a brilliant time of 1:32.
