THE Tennis Wales North County Championships were recently held at Ruthin following a year's break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ruthin Lawn Tennis Club hosted the event for the first time, entertaining junior competitors from across North Wales and across a range of age groups.

Referee Mark Wilkinson congratulated all the players for the high standard of tennis, which culminated in Sunday’s under 18's finals.

Harry Rawlins from Prestatyn ran out winner after a closely-fought first set against Garmon Evans from Bala, who came through a very well-contested 2 ½ hour semi-final to make the final.

Ruthin Mayor Heather Williams, who is herself a member of the Ruthin Lawn Tennis club, made socially-distant presentations of the trophies.

Further tournaments are set to take place at the club with restrictions being lifted.
