DENBIGH Town FC have announced a new team within their set up - a walking football side for ladies.

Work is progressing both on and off the field, with the club's home ground - Central Park - also undergoing a huge makeover in recent weeks.

Aimed at people of any age, but more popular with those aged 35 and above, walking football has become very popular over the last few years, with Wales even having its own international team by now.

Now, Denbigh Town Ladies are introducing their very own team to the mix with the newly formed Denbigh Ladies Strollers.

This section of the club will be run by Steve Bailey who has shown great commitment to walking football locally.

Steve also participates in Denbigh Strollers for males, as well as playing in St Asaph.

Denbigh Town Ladies manager Jordie Baker said: “We have gone from strength to strength over the last year. Having gained Tier 2 status a couple of weeks ago hasn’t stopped our focus for the community.

"Bringing Steve in to run these sessions is great for the club and for the people of Denbigh. We now cater for 4 year olds and above with no limit on age. This is a good addition for us to have a complete pathway from girls to ladies and now even further.”

Steve Bailey added: “Walking Football has seen a huge increase in popularity in the past three years, with many new clubs and teams being founded across the UK. In North Wales, there are approximately 20 teams and clubs playing regularly. Some of those are purely recreational, and some competitive with teams in the Welsh National League, including Denbigh Strollers (men).

"Both nationally and locally we are keen to provide women with the opportunity to play Walking Football in a supportive and relaxed environment. This collaboration between Denbigh Town FC and Denbigh Strollers is intended to do that locally, and provide the opportunity to get involved with a great game with like minded people. All are welcome including complete novices and ex internationals!"

The new team will train between 7-8pm on Wednesdays at the Rec pitches next to Central Park. Anyone wishing to play should contact Steve on 07753724065.
