GOLFERS in Denbigh are fans of winter.

With another 20 weeks of Denbigh Golf Club's winter league to run, the numbers participating continue to grow.

Last week saw 135 cards returned but with a low average score of 33 points.

However, Mike Robinson scored a great 44 points to win the second week.

Ross Jones claimed the silver division bragging rights with 42 points, edging out Darren Foulkes, with 41 points from a handicap of seven.

Mike Hughes was first in the bronze division with 42 points, a point ahead of Peter H Jones.

Nearest the pin on the challenge hole - the eighth - was Marc Shaw.

Along with his success in the Clwyd & Borders Alliance, Fred Jones topped the week three leaderboard with a mighty 49 points, leaving all in his wake from 136 players and the CSS recorded as 34.

As in previous weeks, all above 40 points received a handicap reduction of three.

Silver: 1, E G Howells 41pts; 2, Andy Witton 40. Bronze: 1, Sam Lewis 44pts; 2, Gethin Edwards 42. Nearest the pin, Marc Shaw.

Week four was another week of high scores, with 140 entries being seen.

Result: Winner, Chris Bamber 45pts. Silver: 1, Wyn Jones 43pts; 2, Brian Lewis 41. Bronze: 1, Bryn Owen 42pts; 2, Sam Lewis 41.

Ladies winter league:

Week 1: Division 1, Judy Owen 20pts; Division 2, Wendy Williams 17pts.

Week 2: Div 1, Maria Morgan 18pts; Div 2, Margo Stubbs 22pts.

Week 3: Div 1, Joan Jones 17pts; Div 2, Wendy Williams 22pts.

Denbigh Golf Club's annual general meeting will be held at the club on Monday, December 6 (7.30pm).
