IT turned out to be a four-midable weekend from Ruthin Town's perspective.

A fantastic 4-2 win at home to Colwyn Bay was enough to see Ruthin up into fourth spot in the Cymru North standings.

As well as the action on the Memorial Park Fields playing surface, it was a big day off the pitch for Ruthin too.

Saturday also marked the official switching on of the club's floodlights, which was carried out by FAW president Steve Williams.

Both sides went into the contest with lofty aims, as Ruthin sat fifth and Colwyn Bay were sixth in the table.

The better start belonged to Ruthin versus their depleted visitors.

Sam Ricketts scored with a free header from a corner to give the hosts a fifth minute lead.

George Mannion had a shot blocked by keeper Ryan Goldston at the other end, before Wil Owen doubled Ruthin’s advantage with a tap in following a counter attack.

Captain Tom McCready’s free-kick went wide as the Bay struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Jamie Cumming scored Ruthin’s third but Bay pulled a goal back four minutes later when Lewis Sirrell netted after Goldston had failed to hold onto the ball.

Goldston denied James Kirby and Sam Jones twice in what was a better second half for the Bay before the Seagulls were awarded a penalty.

Jones was brought down in the box but Kirby’s powerful spot kick struck the crossbar.

Matt Hill netted a fourth for Ruthin and although Sirrell scored a second with a fine goal two minutes from time, it was an afternoon to forget for the Bay, who suffered defeat after four successive wins.

From Ruthin's point of view, the day could not have gone any better and a 10th league win of the season saw them climb above Buckley Town and into fourth position.
