COVID issues meant that RGC's scheduled Premiership contest at home to Pontypridd failed to go ahead.

Due to Pontypridd players showing symptoms of Covid, and a number of suspected cases, the club informed RGC on Friday that they were unable to fulfil the fixture the following day.

The date for the rearranged fixture will be announced in due course.

However, this did not mean there was no action at Colwyn Bay's Eirias Park.

Instead, RGC took on a North Wales Select XV, consisting of North Wales Players from both RGC and clubs around the region.

It was a Rebels v Barbarians encounter, with the latter running out 17-5 winners in a competitive clash.

Both sides featured a mix of RGC players, supported by players from clubs around the region.

It was the Barbarians who took the lead after a driving maul and Brodie Coghlan came up with the score.

Sam Rogers hit over the conversion.

Tommy Ellis and Rhys Williams combined for the Rebels as they tried to spark their side back into action.

The Rebels did get the next score when Sam Hughes took the ball on halfway and through to touch down.

Barbarians then extended their lead when winger Rhys Tudor went in at the corner after he powered through some tackles to get the try.

The second half started with another driving maul score from the Barbarians, with Aaron Williams getting the try.

Rebels started to get some possession and they tested the Barbarians' defence, with Afon Bagshaw making some strong runs to gain field position.

It was a family affair, as Morgan Bagshaw then made a powerful run down the middle before being tackled.

The 80 minutes was a good run out for the players and it became a physical affair with both sides looking for the next score, but the defences remained solid.

In Division Three (North), Ruthin seconds triumphed 15-3 at Llanidloes.

Llangollen-based Bro Gwernant enjoyed their Division Four (North) match at home to Porthmadog as they ran out comfortable 41-0 winners.

Brothers Danny and Ryan Griffiths each bagged two tries apiece for Bro, while there was also a score for Harry Paton.

Just two of the scheduled six matches went ahead in Division One (North).

COBRA are the new leaders thanks to their 7-0 home success versus Pwllheli, who were defeated for the first time this season.

A 17-5 outcome at Bro Ffestiniog saw Bethesda climb into third spot.
