A REDUCED number of 80 players turned out for week eight of Denbigh Golf Club's winter league season.

The course was in good condition and fair weather again returned good scores.

Topping the pile during the week was Mike Hughes, who accumulated 43 points.

The main scoring was in the bronze division.

Division winner Neil Davies was pipped to victory by Hughes on countback, with bronze section runner up Shay Owen just a further point back.

John D Roberts (41 points) topped the silver division, three points clear of section runner-up Gethin Edwards.

David Platt was nearest to the pin on the eighth hole.

The end-of-year individual and team positions never indicate the overall winners, as from now on those who have sheltered so far will begin to show their colours.

However, it's still good to have the bragging rights and it remains close.

Eric G Howells tops the individual leaderboard with 29 points, one clear of Mike Hughes.

Fred Roberts lies third on 26 points, once ahead of the chasing Alan O’Malley, Scott Leonard and Dave Clayton.

The trio of Paul Smith, Dilwyn W Roberts and Gethin Edwards lead the team competition with 61 points.

In second spot, on 54 points, are Andy O’Loughlin, Arthur Jones and Eric Howells, two ahead of Kimi Evans, Nigel Roxburgh and Andrew Witton.
