YOU'VE got to take the pleasure with the pain.

That's what Fred Jones will be telling himself after he reclaimed top position in Denbigh Golf Club's winter league standings.

Fred secured a further seven points last week, but also suffered a reduction of four to his handicap, which no doubt will leave him mortally wounded as the league develops.

Another change was recorded to the teams leaderboard, with two sharing the top positions on 87 points apiece.

It appears that all will go down to the wire with another six weeks remaining... weather permitting.

The 15th week of winter league action attracted 96 players and Steven M Jones was able to secure a narrow victory.

Winter league week 15: Winner, Steven M Jones 41pts. Silver: 1, Arwel W Jones 40; 2, Paul Mazurek 40. Bronze: 1, Roy Tickle 38; 2, Kyle Morris 37. Nearest the pin, Kyle Morris.

As a break from the winter league, the ladies arranged an open nine-hole Valentine's competition and this was well supported.

Overall winner, Ceri Parry (Denbigh) 20pts. Home: 1, Helen Haywood 19; 2, Jean Goodrick 18; 3, Jane Williams 18. Visitors: 1, Catherine Parton (Pwllglas) 19; 2, Kate Fox-Parry (Padeswood & Buckley) 18; 3, Lynne Horsley (Abergele) 16.
